Eight New Cameras, Super-Zoom Prosumer Camera

By

Prosumer digital cameras is identical with serious cameras such as DSLR camera with long lens, but lens of prosumer can not be removed like on DSLR cameras. Prosumer camera was present when the price of a DSLR was still very high. Many photographers who want to practice photography is serious but have not enough funds to buy a DSLR. Therefore, the current prosumer cameras sold nowadays is chosen because the quality is as good as DSLR in terms of image quality and performance in general. Now, the existence of prosumer cameras continues to survive despite struggling amid the crush of new sophisticated DSLR cameras. One way prosumer to exist is to make the lens as long as possible in order to attract buyers. Prosumer camera with 20x optical zoom lens above are now already become a common thing.

Why prosumer camera?

The development of digital photography technology has led today's prosumer camera into a reliable practical camera for everyday photography, from photographing macro, landscape, to telephoto pictures in nature. Even the ability to record video prosumer is even more enhanced, with the ability to record High Definition and using MPEG-4 AVC compression efficiency. Many prosumer today who have been equipped with external flash holder, so the limitations of prosumer in areas with less light can be solved by attaching an external flash that has greater power. About the fact that fixed lens prosumer. Not to mention about the price and weight, prosumer camera is lighter than DSLR, making the prosumer still have hope for a place among photographers, both beginners up to professionals.

What does prosumer camera lack?

What kind of compromise must be accepted by someone who bought the prosumer camera?Cameras of this type is quite expensive, but still cheaper than DSLR cameras. So do not expect that a prosumer camera is similar with DSLR performance. So the compromise that must be received is at least four things:

First is to avoid the use of high ISO, it means playing it safe in the ISO base up to a maximum of ISO 400. Second,  don't expect much photography with narrow DOF, such as a photo portrait or still life.

Third is to avoid photography that requires fast-paced camera, including the shutter, auto focus up to the fast continuous shooting. Fourth, prosumer users must rely on the existing lens,so the lens can not change with others lens, although there are available accessory lenses such as add-on and conversion lens.

My Recommendation

If you are someone who do not want complicated use of DSLR camera, why not try out the super zoom prosumer camera alone? Consider the eight super-zoom prosumer camera, that  I am going to chose for you, equipped with a short description of its features and its shortcomings, are presented in alphabetical order. Who knows one of these cameras fit in your heart.

Casio Exilim FH20

Casio Exilim EX-FH20 9.1 MP Digital Camera with 20x Optical Zoom and 3-Inch LCD (Black)
Amazon Price: $1,147.00
List Price: $349.00

Casio Exilim FH20: faster than the fastest DSLR

Imagine the burst speed digital SLR camera, how high? it can reach up to 10 frames per second. Imagine if there was a camera that can exceed the speed of prosumer DSLR with 40 fps! This is not a dream, a camera Exilim FH-20 with 9 MP CMOS sensor is capable of shooting up to 40 fps at a resolution of 3072 x 2304 pixels, or four times faster than the ability to burst DSLR about 10 fps. Supported wide 26mm lens with 20x zoom and HDvideo recording capability of 30 fps (1000 fps evenavailable options for resolution of 224 x 56 pixels, smaller than the video resolution camera phones), RAW file formats, image stabilizer and 3-inch LCD screen, making super zoom EX-FH20 is a heavy competitor Canon SX1.

Disadvantages of the EX-FH20 is the absence of flash lamp holder and lens optical quality of the Exilimis not commensurate with other prosumer grade camera lens.

Fuji FinePix S1500: simple, inexpensive but complete

Fuji has a lot of products that a long lens, even Fuji camera lens is relatively less long time since having a 12x optical zoom only. But we deliberately chose the Fuji S1500 based on two considerations: the features and price. For some people, having a camera with 12x zoom lens that is more than sufficient, and the lens above it only makes the sales price higher. So the 10 MP camera comes to those who understand the meaning of simplicity but still want the best, say like the quality of optical lenses, lens at f/2.8 maximum aperture at wide position, stabilizer and design features and a comfortable ergonomic camera. For additional information, Fuji uses LCDs measuring 2.7 inchesand is powered by 4 AA batteries. All of these can befound on the Fuji S1500 is priced just under 300$

Disadvantages of the Fuji S1500 is the absence ofthe flash holder, the lens is less wide and features VGA movie that's just it (though incredibly it was able to zoom optically when recording a video).

Kodak Z1015IS: Superior Schneider Lens and HD movie

Kodak had no choice but to focus on prosumer class, because Kodak products in DSLR do not exist. As always, the mainstay of Kodak is entrusted to the Schneider lenses for the best quality. This time it comes with  Kodak Z1015IS, camera design is quite strange, with 10 MP resolution, 15x zoom lens (28-420mm), who strangely use diaphragms of  f/3.5 aperture in wide positions.Camera sailed 3-inch LCD equipped with features such as optical stabilizer, RAW file format and HD movies at 30 fps.

Lack of this camera is a strange design (you may not agree), without the flash and lens holder, cameras are slow with only f/3.5 maximum aperture.

Lumix FZ28: Superb 18x zoom lens

Panasonic success in the prosumer camera market rule with 18x zoom has been inscribed by the Lumix FZ18. Now his successor comes with a Lumix FZ28 which uses 10 MP CCD sensor, and experienced little change in the focal range (now 27-486mm f/2.8-4.4) but still persist in an 18x optical zoom, and using Venus for more powerful engines. Lumix lens is Leica, already known for quality, easy operation (intelligent Auto), as well as the most effective stabilizer OIS compared to other brands. For those who like RAW files will be relieved with the ability to record FZ28 RAW files, and availability features 30 fps HD movie resolution standards are a trend in the future. All these features make the Lumix FZ28 to be the best among similar cameras with zoom lenses.

Lumix deficiency in general is the noise that seem higher than other cameras (even though it means Lumix guard detail is better than other cameras). Unfortunately, not available flash lamp holder so that it is enough to rely on a built-in flash on the camera.

Nikon Coolpix P90: the more ambitious with 24x zoom

Unsuccessful with the Coolpix P80, Nikon comesback with the successor of the Coolpix P90 is a surprise to the design of the 26mm lens that starts and ends at 624mm (or 24x optical zoom). Seemed ambitious indeed, especially now carries Nikon 12 MP sensor with a resolution in order to win the competition. This beautiful design camera that has a nice button layout, LCD screen and is equipped with folding stabilizer on the sensor.

Can you believe that the camera is not as complete and ambitious features HD movie? A lot of Nikon fans who complained this issue, not to mention the lack of features and the absence of RAW file format holder flash on this camera making the upgrade from P80 to P90 less significant.

Pentax X70: the first super zoom from Pentax

Hot competition enlivened by a new comer to the super zoom class, the Pentax who tried its luck with the launch of Pentax X70. Super zoom lens camera also has a 24x zoom range that exactly the same as the Nikon P90 which is 26-624mm, even both use 12 MP sensors. The difference was not using Pentax folding LCD, and already supports HD movie even though only 15 fps. Problem stabilizer, Pentax also introduced a system sensor shift as well as the Nikon P90.

This camera does not yet support RAW format files and no flash lamp holder, really unfortunate given the Pentax as new entrants should have been studying the shortcomings of its competitors.

Sony Cybershot DSC-HX1: getting closer to a DSLR camera

We arrived at the final product is the Sony DSC-HX1 that carries 9 MP CMOS sensor. With a target directly competing with Canon and Casio FH20 SX1, Sony is also packing Sony G lens with 20x zoom capability. Gcode itself shows the use of 6 blade diaphragm (almost like a DSLR lens with 7 blade) for a better quality lens. Other features include a folding LCD screen measuring 3 inches long, panoramic sweep, steady shot (optical stabilizer), stereo HD movie 1440x 1080 and Bionz processor (such as owned by Sony Alpha DSLR).

Unfortunately not equipped with external flash lamp holder and does not support RAW format files.

CONCLUSION

No cameras are to be winners in this list, but its you who determine which camera fits photographic needs and also fits your budget. If you are looking for a camera with the longest lens currently, there is the Olympus SP-590 lens with 26x optical zoom super extreme, or 26-676 mm with a resolution of 12 MP. However, because the Olympus xD memory cards still use the old-fashioned and also slow, we did not put it into the list of recommendations this time.

In conclusion in this hub, we categorize the cameras in the same category:

There are three cameras that already use CMOS sensors such as Canon SX1, Casio FH20 and Sony HX1, assuming a CMOS sensor capable of giving better performance at high ISO and burst speed is also better. But the use of a CMOS sensor camera so it certainly makes the price higher (price range 500$).

There are two cameras that have very ambitious design with a 24x zoom lens, which is Nikon Pentax P90 and X70, while the rest stay at 20x, 18x, 15x even 12x only. Remarkably, they not only are both 24x zoom lenses, but both are also capable of making a lens that starts from 26mm (while competitors typically 28mm).

Do not stare at the camera resolution, because a small sensor on a non DSLR camera is very pretty even though only 5 MP. We consider the resolution on the 10 MP sensor has exceeded the limits of physics that are particularly vulnerable noise at high ISO. So if you need a camera on a 10 MP resolution, you should consider only DSLR. Here Lumix FZ28, Nikon Pentax P90 and X70 look so forced myself to 12 MP, though not much difference when compared with the 10 MP.

Prosumer camera called a full-featured if it has features like manual mode, the stabilizer, RAW file format and an external flash lamp holder. All the above cameras have been equipped with a manual mode and the stabilizer, but not all have the RAW file format and base for the flash. If you need a camera with RAW file format, look at the technical specifications of the camera you prefer. If you want a camera with flash holder, it seems that only Canon SX1 that have it.

HD movie is a recent trend.Champion of HD movie feature on the list this time is the Canon SX1 and Sony HX1 with stereo audio. But if you feel you do not need a camera with HD movie, there is a camera that can record VGA movie just like the Fuji S1500 or Nikon P90. Be careful because there is also a compelling HD movie camera but only capable of 15 fps (should be at least 24 fps) so the video image will appear broken.

That is list of prosumer cameras that can be recommended for you. I hope you find it useful!
