Canon EOS 550D vs Nikon D3100
Indeed the trend beginner DSLR prices continue to fall but on the other side of every new product that appears is always required an increase in features. Though not all of us need to have increased features especially if it must be paid by the skyrocketing prices of new-generation cameras. Canon EOS 550D as the latest products from Canon DSLR beginners, then followed by Nikon D3100 is a clear example of the current dilemma. Both the time being sold in the range of 650 dollars, was too expensive for the size of the camera that are psychologically novice there should exist at 400 dollars. Then the second Pantaskah I reviewed this brand-new product? In fact, both this camera is a camera terpoluler a lot of curious (and wanted to have) the most novice photographers, students to gadget enthusiasts.
Canon and Nikon to apply different strategies in their product.Canon diligently to make new products, so orderly in the making since the EOS 300D DSLR beginners, then in succession came his successor the 350D, 400D, 450D, 550D 500D until now. In the near future I'm sure will attend 600D, 650D ff. While Nikon's long enough to make a beginner DSLR product cycles, since the D40, D60, D3100 D3000 until now. Canon chose to continue to raise the resolution of the sensor each create new products, up to a peak EOS 550D using APS-C sensor with a resolution of 18 megapixels. In addition to the sensor, not much significant change between the new Canon camera with the previous product. While the Nikon D40 also initially successful with not much change the specification of his successors except only adds to 10 MP resolution on the D60 and gives 11 points AF on the D3000.Changes in surprising fact is the Nikon when creating D3100 where this is the first time that Nikon provides feature full HD movie that can auto focus on beginner DSLR camera. Also be changed using CMOS Sensor resolution 14 MP which is even higher than D90/D300 that 'only' 12 MP.
Today many parties who want to know more about which option is better between Canon 550D and Nikon D3100. Actually, with 650 $ fund beginner camera choices are not limited to these two types only, for example, there is also Pentax and Sony A33 Kr are equally good. But it's a collection of Canon and Nikon lenses so complete that we know this while Canon and Nikon camera system still has not wavered. I try to review plus minus two for you:
Canon EOS 550D
EOS 550D suitable for you who are looking for an affordable camera with highest resolution sensor ever for APS-C chip. EOS 550D also pamper the eyes with amazing screen sharp with 1 million pixels with a 3:2 aspect ratio. If you prefer a camera that can record HD video, the EOS 550D also supports 1080p resolution at 30 fps (better than the EOS 500D is only 20 fps at HD 1080p).
The advantages compared to the EOS 550D Nikon D3100 include:
higher-resolution sensor (18MP vs. 14 MP)
14-bit RAW (Nikon uses 12 bits)
sharp screen and high resolution
appear during live view histogram
slightly faster burst (3.7 fps vs. 3 fps)
support all Canon EF lenses and EF-S (can autofocus)
available official accessory battery grip
Nikon D3100
Present perfect D3000 which is considered less successful, Nikon surprised everyone by changing the CCD sensor at 10 MP 14 MP CMOS D60/D3000 into the D3100. In addition, Nikon also provides a live-view feature movies and HD 1080p 24 fps that can auto focus while recording video. But unfortunately Nikon somehow still do not provide the basic features of the exposure bracketing on the D3100. In addition, D3100 is also not provide AF motor so that the old Nikon lenses (non AF-S) can not auto focus. But whatever it is, D3100 regarded as the best beginner DSLR ever made by Nikon
D3100 advantages compared to 550D are:
more AF points (11 points vs. 9 points)
there are features 3D tracking AF
the ability to auto focus while recording video
Better ergonomics
GUIDE mode to help beginners
there is a special lever to switch fast mode (continuous shooting, self timer, etc.)
If you still feel confused in choosing, it seems quite reasonable considering they are already very good for a beginner. Moreover, both are almost the same specifications, such as:
equally able to record HD video 1080p
both wear sensor APS-C size CMOS
The same ISO capability (max ISO 6400 could even ISO 12 800)
The same viewfinder (pentamirror, 95% coverage)
The same shutter capability (max. 1 / 4000 sec)
The same flash sync (1 / 200 second), the same power (GN13)
both had a dynamic range enhancing features
A little advice from me, we should not be trapped by the numbers in the specifications. Resolution 18 MP for example, in reality on the ground is not much give a significant difference when compared with 14 MP sensor. Likewise, 3.7 fps burst compared to 3 fps for example. To choose to believe, would be better if you think the plan forward camera system (lens, flash, other accessories) and also take time to download sample images of the site reviews abroad. So you should not have to hesitate in choosing, after all, whatever the camera is used with proper origin and understand its limitations, then we can produce beautiful photos and video.

And my choice is 550D. I compared both the D3100 and 550D and found 550D to be a better camera.
hi! thx for the comments.
Nice comparison!! You did bring out some important aspects like Nikon and Canon were actual leaders in Photography because of their lens..and absolutely superb results. I own a Canon, Nikon and Yashica SLR camera with telephotos and I can tell you all this Megapixel stuff is an eyewash..The old camera's still rock. But the digital ones are catching up and the ones that are really close to the analog ones are really expensive and may be bought by very few.
IN digital camera's I would go for any Nikon/Canon camera's the rest are just wannabe's.
thx movingfinger for the comment.. I also agree that both slr camera I reviewed (nikon x Canon) have high quality. I also think like that.. thx
Thanks Roffi! This article helps me a lot!
thanks luck!
Thanks for these tips, I am getting ready to purchase. I will use this information to help me choose the right product for my uses. Good Hub,vote up.
thx for the comment susannah42
thx web hosting
I am so interested in the Canon EOS Rebel, but I've only had digital compact cameras like the CANON SD-780 IS. What are the primary advantages of these types of cameras. I know this is kind of a noobie question but I would like to know what features this has that a standard small digital camera doesn't. Is it recommended to buy new lenses for the canon EOS Rebel
nice post, a good source of information for those you want to purchase a camera, I for one would like to purchase a nikon 3100.
just bought my D3100 for $539 on newegg.com, promo code EMCZNPY88 ends today at midnight or while supplies last
then which is better for those beginner?
I went for the 550D and haven't looked back! The 24fps HD video is important to me. I thought the video on the D3100 was horrible.. The noise artefacts on the D3100 at higher ISO are definitely less noticeable but on balance I think the Canon is the better overall camera. Got mine from Hong Kong on an ebay shop. Worked out much cheaper! :)
thx japangulu for the comment.. personally,, i am a canon man too
I'm still torn between the two. I guess I'll have to pop in to my local shop and try them both out. Stats and specs are one thing, but it's the results that count.
Well I live in Georgia (country) Europe and I want to get the camera from Amazon, but have got no idea which one to choose, I am trapped with nicon because is has more 3D sense :) but I think it can't be that much difference, and do you know if they sell japanese product on Amazon? thanks
if u were comparing 9 or 10 megapx against 17 or 18 megapx then surely u shd go for higher megapxls but if its 14 against 17.9 then i don't think that the quality produced by both are differ much...but equal charm.i don't find any cunning stunt to make your pic better by that EV bracketing...i liked the D-lightning feature of d3100 whr as i like 3.7 fps of 550D...good quality image can be obtained by clever clickers with good knowledge of ISO,Metering modes, focus mode, etc ....nikon vs canon battle will never end . Both have their own charm and charisma.
if u r a beginner and or want to gift anyone i suggest 10 to 14 meagapixel dslr (any) becausethe body is cheaper and u can add up some lenses more to have more fun with either macro or tele zoom ! I guarantee the satisfaction guarantee and win win happiness !
bless day ,
thanks for all the comments ,coz i just think first before i buy a camera, but now i choose to buy canon 550d.
but i know nikon is good too,
thanks..
Hi!
Canon 550D-is better. The 1Million pixel on the LCD is very useful, it's fit better in my hand, and it has a sensor, when you put your eye, to the viewfinder, the lcd turns off, thats very useful too at nigth
